FEU Sweeps Men's, Women's Athletics Meet

MANILA—Far Eastern University continued its blazing stride in athletics with a sweep of the crowns in the men's and women's divisions yesterday in the conclusion of the 73rd UAAP Track and Field meet held at the PhilSports open field in Pasig.

The Lady Tamaraws sustained its mastery of the tournament and emerged as the runaway victor for eight straight years after accumulating a total of 303 points. University of Santo Tomas again came in far second with 252 points while University of the East finished third with 102 points.

The male entries from the Tamaraws, however, had to hold their breaths before claiming the men's overall title that was once theirs by narrowly edging the erstwhile-champion UE, 202 points to 201. UST, last year's fourth placer, came in far third with 156 markers.

Palarong Pambansa gold medalist and ASEAN University games veteran Dalyn Carmen, who prevailed in the steeplechase and the 10,000 meter run along with other FEU tracksters, was named Most Valuable player of the women's division in four-day event.

Jesson Cid, another University games mainstay who ruled the decathlon yesterday, was also adjudged as MVP in the men's meet.
