Donaire, Montiel Mix It Up Today

LAS VEGAS--Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire Jr. and WBC/WBO champion Fernando Montiel both made the bantamweight limit Friday after earlier scrambling to reduce several pounds for their championship bout Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Donaire and Montiel tipped the scales at 118 pounds during an unbelievably crowded official weigh-in attended by several big name fighters including Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez, Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera, Antonio Margarito, Jorge Arce and Cristian Mijares.

After starving for the past two days to make the weight, Donaire told the Inquirer he’s looking forward to winning and moving up to challenge any of the reigning super bantamweight champions including WBO champion Wilfredo Vasquez Jr.

Although the challenger, Donaire (25-1, 17KOs) has been installed as favorite by Las Vegas oddsmakers in their world title fight set at Mandalay Bay Reports and Casino.

The 31-year-old Montiel, a world champion since 1999, holds a 44-2-1 card with 34 knockouts.

A group of flag-waving Filipinos matched shouts and boos with an equally noisy band of Mexicans during the weigh-in and Donaire later said the Philippine-Mexican rivalry "is good news for boxing."

"Me and Montiel are good friends but in the ring we bring out the best because we are proud of who we are and its healthy for boxing and brings the people to watch. Internationally the Mexicans are our biggest rivals," he said.

After the weigh-in, Donaire and his entourage which included his wife Rachael enjoyed a balanced meal of pasta and chicken.

"I am ready as ever," said Donaire, a former world flyweight champion.

"He wants to knock me out and I want to knock him out. Its a good equation of a good fight. I will definitely have fun. I am not underestimating him but this is going to be another good day."

Boxing is a great spectator sport, but a lot of fights are pretty boring, although there are bright which kept in suspense all the time, but the brightness of the show in my opinion that's a kid not inferior to the stars of Boxing: 8-year-old skateboarder from Japan is driving the internet crazy https://kami.com.ph/54210-8-year-old-skateboarder-girl-blowing-internet-mad-skills.html You agree with me?
